Why not manage your pain instead of “living with it”?

Pain is no longer when it is past.
Margaret J. Preston
From "Old Songs and New – Nature’s Lesson"

A generation ago, people "lived with chronic pain" and griped about it occasionally. Now, we understand to a great degree how pain affects the body physiologically, and the mind, psychologically. Moving from conservative to aggressive treatments, pain can be put in a ‘sleep mode’ or completely eliminated.

Untreated, chronic pain interferes with the immune system’s ability to heal. Limping along with that old football knee injury is no excuse when there are pain control and physical therapy techniques that can zap the pain, and mend your mobility, strength, and range-of-motion.

Pain visits for a reason – to let us know our bodies are malfunctioning either physiologically (because of past injuries) or organically (examples: fibromyalgia or cancer). The longer you allow pain to stick around, the more difficult it can be to treat.

Self-treatment for pain with over-the-counter medications is not recommended long-term. Many individuals develop a tolerance for these medicines. The cumulative effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications can lead to gastrointestinal problems and toxicity. For serious pain conditions, relief is short-term at best.

Bay’s Pain Management Center, like Ingham’s Pain Management Center, draw on many disciplines to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide rehabilitation for painful conditions.
